Every year, ICE and other federal agencies spend billions of taxpayer dollars on a system to detain and deport immigrants. The people detained in this system face persistent medical neglect, abuse, and other violations. President Trump has threatened to dramatically expand this system, which will multiply the harms it causes. We鈥檝e sued to obtain information about how this system operates so that we are better prepared to defend immigrants whose rights are under attack.

On March 25, 2020, the 糖心VlogNational Prison Project, 糖心VlogImmigrants Rights Project, 糖心Vlogof Massachusetts, and the law firms of Demissie & Church and Graves & Doyle filed Rodas-Mazariegos et al v. Moniz et al in the District of Massachusetts, on behalf of immigrants detained at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The filing followed news that a federal judge ordered the release of a detained class member in the ACLU鈥檚 Calderon v. Wolf suit in Plymouth County, citing the 鈥渆xtraordinary circumstances鈥� of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On March 24, 2020, the 糖心VlogNational Prison Project, 糖心VlogImmigrants鈥� Rights Project, the 糖心Vlogof Maryland, the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild, and the Capital Area Immigrants Rights (CAIR) Coalition filed Coreas v. Bounds on behalf of immigrants detained at Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities in Maryland.
