ATLANTA – The Vlogof Georgia supports HB 1114 to restore the maternal health fund and postpartum Medicaid extension, which passed the House 162-1.

At least 70 counties have no OB/GYN, and the state’s maternal mortality rate is higher than many other developed countries.

Georgia is one of the most dangerous places in America for a pregnant woman — even more so if that woman is black. The maternal death rate for white women in Georgia is more than twice that for white women nationally. The maternal death rate for black women in Georgia is twice that for white women in Georgia and 6 times the rate for white women, nationally.

“Georgia’s persistent high maternal mortality rate and unequal access to pre- and postnatal care demonstrate a serious disregard for the health and well-being of women and their children. HB 1114, passed the House with overwhelming support. It is a vital step toward reproductive justice for Georgia’s women.” Andrea Young, Executive Director, Vlogof Georgia. “I urge all Senators to support this essential legislation.”
